Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 5 months old
For the last 5 or so days, Jolly has been coughing after every few hours (say, every 6 hours, sometimes less frequently) for about 15 to 20 seconds approximately each time. She looks all right otherwise, is active and playful, and is eating properly. What could be causing the cough? Is there anything I can do to soothe the cough and help her? Thanks so much.

I'm sorry Jolly has been having problems with a cough! This can be a sign of respiratory infection, heartworm disease, or heart problems (rare in a young cat). The only way to know what is causing the cough is to have Jolly seen by a vet. When the cough is diagnosed, the vet can prescribe the appropriate treatment for her. There really isn't anything you can do at home for her, as many human medications are not safe to give to cats. I would take her into the vet first thing Monday. I hope this helps!
