My dog's stomach is bloated, he won't eat, and he's losing weight. What do I do?

Hi! My dogs stomach is inflated and he won't eat. He only drinks water and he's very week from lack of nutrition. We have tried to give him several foods but he wont take any. He looks like he's hungry tho. Also he's lost lots of weight. What should I do.

Tommy needs to go into a vet immediately. It's very serious he won't eat, he's lost lots of weight, and is weak from lack of nutrition. At his age, it could be something severe causing him to not eat, such as kidney failure, liver failure, cardiac disease, or cancer among others. He needs veterinary attention now, he will slowly be starving. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

Poor Coco! That much distension in the stomach can indicate fluid (ascites) in the abdomen or an enlarged abdominal organ like the liver. These problems can develop secondary to heart disease, liver failure, low protein levels, severe GI parasites, and cancer. I'd recommend taking Coco to see a veterinarian right away as he needs blood work and X-rays to know why this is happening. This is a true medical emergency as many of the causes of a distended stomach can be life threatening. Thanks for using Boop by Petco and I am hoping Coco has an easy recovery!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Loss of appetite can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Tommy evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. My dog is vomiting sticky liquid from his mouth and he is very weak he is not able to maintain coordination while walking n pooping reddish black liquid poop he is also not eating anything not even mediciens are remaining in his stomach
It sounds as if Tommy is very ill and needs to be seen by a veterinarian immediately. Poisoning, illness, severe infections, etc can all cause similar symptoms, and the severity you are describing is very concerning. Please seek veterinary care ASAP from your local vet or an ER clinic.

My dog has severe stomach pain, and it’s gotten to the point where he cries sometimes. He refuses to eat or drink water. He also seems nauseous, but he hasn’t vomited. He’s very distant, and doesn’t want us around him. What can we do to help him?
Poor Ricky! I'm afraid these symptoms sound quite serious. If he's painful, acting lethargic, and not eating or drinking, this is not something that can be treated at home - he needs to be seen by a vet right away. He may have a GI problem such as pancreatitis or an intestinal obstruction, a systemic illness like liver or kidney disease, or may have ingested something toxic. Your veterinarian can do blood work and x-rays to help diagnose the problem and get him started on appropriate treatment depending on what is found.

Tommy is extremely ill and he needs to see a vet now. He could have gotten into something toxic or could have parvovirus if he isn't fully vaccinated. There is nothing you can do at home for him, this is a medical emergency and leaving him in this state could be fatal. Please take him into a vet immediately.

my dog won't eat or drink and she has a swollen stomach
Sheena should be evaluated by a veterinarian right away! If her belly is swollen she could be suffering from bloat (stomach full of air), a GDV (where the stomach bloats and turns on itself) or she could have fluid in her belly or uterus (pyometra). All of these conditions are very serious and require immediate veterinary care. I hope Sheena is doing ok! Please let us know if you have more questions.

My dog has lost weight. Throwing up and won't eat or drink I'm very worried about her. What do I do?
Possible causes for vomiting include dietary intolerance, dietary indiscretion, food allergy, intestinal parasites, GI blockage, gastroenteritis, bacterial or viral infection, IBD, pancreatitis, among others. In a young dog, intestinal blockage is at the top of my list. I recommend that Taylor get checked out by a vet as soon as possible. Weight loss can be caused by severe dehydration or other internal illness, but always indicates a serious problem that needs medical care.

Hello I need help, my dog suddenky loat appetite and screams when a certain part of his stomach is touched, he also would suddenly get up and sit for an hour unless I try to lay him down. He was fine few days ago then the next morning he wouldn't eat
This sounds potentially serious (infection, trauma, foreign object or obstruction). Without a physical exam though, we can't determine what may be wrong with Timmy. Ideally, he should be seen by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER today. Abdominal x-rays and maybe lab work can be done after an exam to diagnose the underlying cause. Supportive care (IV or subcutaneous fluids, pain medication, etc.) can also be administered as indicated until a diagnosis is reached.

Poor Marshall! It definitely sounds like something isn't right. There are many things that can cause a swollen stomach with weight loss and decreased appetite. Some possibilities would include heart disease, liver problems, cancer, or even internal bleeding. Treatment will depend on what the underlying problem is, so I would recommend taking Marshall to the vet as soon as you are able to. He/she can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help diagnose what is causing these symptoms, and will recommend treatment options depending on what is found.

I took my doctor that a week ago he was bought and he's just really weak they did x-ray and they found out that he can stomach was bloated and that he has air in his stomach so they gave me medication it's been a week and he hasn't gotten any better
Please call your vet and give him/her an update and schedule a recheck. Your vet might need to run some blood-work and repeat x-rays to try to diagnose his problem. If it has been a week with no improvement than the medication is not working and your vet needs to determine the cause. He may need some fluids to treat dehydration since he has not been eating and is so weak. Please call your vet right away and discuss.
