Will my male and female conures mate and lay eggs in the same cage?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | 5 lbs

I'm deciding on getting another conure and I'm getting one of the opposite gender. If we keep them in the same cage will they mate and lay eggs? If they do lay eggs how frequently? (With or without babies)

A female does not need a male in order to lay eggs. Once she matures (at around 1 year old), she will begin to lay eggs. They will be infertile in the absence of a male. If placed together and conditions are right, they may mate and she will lay fertile eggs. They typically lay a clutch of 4-6 eggs with 24-48 hours between eggs. Incubation lasts about 3-4 weeks.
