Is it normal for my puppy's gums to bleed and swell while teething?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | 4 months and 21 days old

Is it okay for her my GSD's gums to bleed like this? She's been working on those back molars and teething so I know that's likely the cause, they just look painful. The ones in the very back are swollen from trying to break through and the ones that have bleed if she gnaws on things.

This is fine. The gums appear healthy with no signs of infection or excessive damage. The gums bleed quite easily, so I wouldn't be too worried about it being very painful. I think that at-most the mouth would feel mildly sore. I hope that helps and gives some peace of mind.

Yes, you can see some bleeding from the teeth when a puppy is teething, especially if the puppy is chewing on something. The bleeding should stop and not be excessive, but if it doesn't stop, then this isn't normal and Million should see a vet. I recommend getting him a teething toy that can be frozen in the freezer. The cold will be soothing on his gums. I hope this helps!
