My dog has lower back pain, shivering, and can't jump. What's wrong?

I have a question? My fur baby which is 4 years old is having pain in her lower back and shivering a lot? I was wondering what could be wrong? She is still eating barking and walking around! But she is not as energetic as she usually is and can't jump much? I'm really worried about her? Btw her gums are still pink so do you know what could be possibly wrong?

It could be that Ellie has injured her back or her hips, leading her to be in pain and not jump much. She could also have a slipped disc in her back causing her pain. It's good that her gums are pink, but it is concerning that she is in pain. I would rest her over the weekend. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to toilet on a lead only, and bring her right back in when she's done. If she still appears painful after this time, then I would take her into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from with a lameness exam and x-rays, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. She may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given.

It sounds like your dog has a problem with her back as that is a common sign of back pain. Dogs are usually reluctant to jump because it causes pain. Your vet can check her for back pain and then prescribe medications to help. She may need an anti-inflammatory, muscle relaxer, and/or pain medications to help. Also, it would be a good idea to restrict her activity for a few weeks, no running, jumping, etc. Hope she feels better soon!

It could be abdominal pain as well as spinal pain. Sometimes spinal disease can have vague symptoms such as shivering or shaking. I would recommend that you have her checked over as there are some medications that will ease the pain immediately but it is essential to distinguish wether the symptoms described are related to a muscular condition,to osteoarthritis or to something more serious like an herniated disc in her spine. This last case is the worst scenario as it can worsen very quickly and determine paralysis. I hope you can have Ebby checked over ASAP and that it is nothing too serious.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is possibly neck or back pain or pain of a different source. It could still be pain associated with a leg even if nothing seems wrong with them. I recommend that you have Pari evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics include radiographs. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least they can prescribe pain control medications to make Pari feel better. In the meantime, reduce her activity as much as possible as that in itself can make a big difference. I recommend having Holly seen by a vet to determine where her pain is coming from. Due to her breed and your described pain symptoms, I'm concerned that she may have a back injury such as IVDD (intervertebral disc disease), in which case she should be put on anti-inflammatory and pain medications right away to control any swelling that might be occurring around her spinal cord. Do not give her any medication, as there is nothing safe over-the-counter for dogs and anything you give her could interfere with the recommended treatment at the vet. In the meantime, the most important thing is to minimize her activity and keep her quiet. Don't let her jump on/off furniture, take her outside only briefly to go potty then right back in, carry her up/down stairs, etc. Hope this helps and hope she feels better soon!

Our dog is all of a sudden shaking, moving slow, and acts like he can't jump. Any idea what this could be?
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Jaspy. Based on your description he could be experiencing neck or back pain. This is common in small breed dogs and can be excruciatingly painful. Most dogs will have a decreased appetite, be reluctant to move, jump or do stairs. Some will tremble with pain. In worst case scenarios, some dogs will experience weakness or paralysis in one or more legs. He will need to see a veterinarian to determine if this or something else is causing his signs. In the meantime, keep him quiet and carry him as much as possible. Do not give any over-the-counter pain medication as these can be toxic to dogs. I hope this information helps!

To me this sounds like Echo is likely in some degree of pain. A change in activity is often a sign of pain. Most dogs don't actively whine or complain when they are uncomfortable or painful. If back or neck pain is present a dog won't always limp. Please remember there are no safe over the counter pain medications for dogs so you will need to have medication prescribed by a veterinarian. Poor Belle! It sounds like she injured herself when she jumped off the couch, and she could have hurt her back, hips, or back legs. It is concerning she is not moving, and that tells me she is likely in a lot of pain. Because of that, I advise you to take her into a vet today. You do not want her to stay in pain, and unfortunately you cannot give her any human pain medications. Many are toxic to dogs, and can be fatal if given. these are signs of pain, probably from her spine or one of her limbs, you need to take her to the vet to get it checked so the vet can find out where the pain is coming from and treat it accordingly.

Thank you for using Boop by Petco! While back pain may definitely be the cause of this, other conditions can cause Honey to be less active or painful. For instance, conditions such as pancreatitis can cause abdominal pain, and thus reduced activity. I recommend having Honey seen by a vet, who can perform bloodwork and x-rays to determine what is causing these signs. Blodwork would be able to rule out any malfunctioning organs or infections, while x-rays can rule out abdominal masses and vertebral fractures or herniated discs. I hope all is well with Honey!
