My dog ate a cookie with a few chocolate chips. Is a vet visit needed?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 1 year old | 14 lbs

My 14lb more stole a cookie with 2-3 semisweet chocolate chips in it. Should I be rushing him to a vet? I can't afford it if I don't have to but I will if necessar. Thank you

That was naughty of Buddy to steal the cookie! Luckily two or three chocolate chips will not be enough to causing any toxicity, so there is no need to take him into a vet. Good news for you and him :-)

So sorry to hear this happened to Lenny. Chances are he will be just fine. The chocolate that is really bad for dogs is the baker's unsweetened chocolate. I'm assuming he ate semi-sweet chocolate chips. Going under the assumption that he ate 1 ounce or less of actual chocolate chips then he is below the toxic dose. What you can expect is the following symptoms which are usually self-limiting (meaning they will go away on their own with a day or two): Vomiting Diarrhea Hypertension Hyperactivity Restlessness It the signs persist more than 48 hours then he needs to see a vet. My best guess is that you will see diarrhea as the main effect. Hope this helps. If you have more questions feel free to post again.

Good evening. My 5 year old 70lb. Lab/Chow mix ate a half of a chocolate chip cookie. It was about an hour ago. He’s fine right now. The cookies had big chunks of chocolate in them. What should I do? Thank you so much!
No worries about this. Even if it was a rather big cookie with big chunks of chocolate, it would not be enough to cause chocolate toxicity in a dog that size. One of the first signs of chocolate toxicity is vomiting and hyperactivity. If you haven't noticed this yet, then there's little chance he will have any signs of toxicity. If he happens to show these signs, then a trip to the vet will be needed for monitoring and medication. However, there's almost no chance he ate enough to cause any problems, so I wouldn't be too worried right now. I hope that helps and all is well with Zeus.

My mini poodle ate a small chocolate chip cookie what should I do? And whats goin to happen to him?
A small cookie may not cause serious toxicity. You may see some gastrointestinal upset such as vomiting and diarrhea. You can manage these with a 24 hour fast followed by a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Symptoms of concern include hyperactivity, rapid heart rate, tremors or seizures. These should be addressed by your veterinarian.

My dog ate a chocolate chip medium sized cookie with some semi sweet chocolate chips in it. He’s acting fine as of now it’s currently been 10 minutes.
Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Pete. I see he's a good sized dog at 55lbs, so chances are eating this cookie is not going to cause him any problems. At most, you may see some GI upset, but I wouldn't be surprised if you don't see anything at all. It can take up to 24 hours for signs of chocolate toxicity to occur, so monitor him over this time period. Do not let him get ahold of any more cookies! I hope this helps!

No, one cookie by a dog of relatively significant size is not likely to cause any significant toxicity. You may see some mild GI upset but nothing that you need to be truly worried about. Hope this helps!

Chewy ate a nutty buddy it's a chocolate covered wafer that has some peanut butter in it he ate less then half
Hello! Good news! It does not look like this has enough chocolate to be toxic to a dog of Chewy's size. I worry much more about dark chocolate, which has a much higher concentration of the toxic compound Theobromine. This product only contains a very small amount of milk chocolate. Chewy may experience minor vomiting or diarrhea from eating a new rich food, but should not experience any chocolate toxicity problems. Have a good day! Thanks for using Boop by Petco! :)

You are correct that chocolate can be toxic in dogs. However, a chocolate biscuit will have very little actual chocolate in it. I am attaching a handout on chocolate toxicity below. https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4952115 If Oscar only ate a small part of a biscuit, I would not expect him to have any problems, but dogs can certainly develop some GI upset from eating something abnormal, so I would recommend contacting your veterinarian if he develops any vomiting or diarrhea. My dog accidently ate 2-3 semi sweet chocolate chips. She is a 7-9 pound matlese Will she be okay?
This small amount of chocolate should not cause any toxic effects in your dog (only 2 to 3 chips). If your dog has a very sensitive GI tract she could have some stomach upset (i.e. diarrhea) but it is unlikely with that few chips being ingested.

my 11 week old puppy (weight 16 pounds) MIGHT have ate one milk chocolate chip. I'm not sure if she did or not, but want to know if the small amount poses a risk. It was about an hour ago, right now she is fast asleep.
One milk chocolate chip will have quite a low cocoa content so shouldn't pose too much of a threat thankfully. Keep a close eye for the next day or so for any strange behaviour and go to your vet right away if you notice anything.

I doubt the number of chocolate chips in 1-2 chocolate chip cookies would be enough to cause chocolate toxicity, however any rich food can potentially trigger vomiting and diarrhea in dogs. If he seems otherwise fine you can monitor him during the day: I would only allow him to drink small amounts of water at a time and would not recommend feeding until this evening. If he vomits again, or if he has more diarrhea that has a red tinge to it I would recommend seeing an emergency veterinarian.
