Pet's info: Dog | Toy Poodle | Male | neutered | 4 years and 10 months old | 10 lbs
My mother was trimming my dog's hair and accidentally cut him with scissors. The cut looks deep to e but he is not bleeding. What should I do? Bring him to a vet or dress the wound myself? The wound is triangular and flaps open at the top.

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Max! This happens a lot when owners trim their dogs or cats hair, especially if the fur is matted. It should have stitiches placed. I would recommend that you take him to a Vet. They hopefully could do it with a local block quickly if he has a calm temperament. I wish you the best of luck and a speedy recovery for Max

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Isaiah! This is a common injury. If the wound is full thickness, Isaiah should see a Vet to see if he needs stitches placed. You can post a picture to allow us to help you better. In the meantime, clean it with water and soap and apply a triple antibiotic ointment twice daily. Use an E-collar or T-shirt to prevent licking. Have the wound evaluated by your Vet Monday. I wish Isaiah a speedy recovery!

It looks like it may require sutures (stitches). For now, place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent licking. Restrict his activity if possible. If he will tolerate it, place a light dressing or wrap on it to keep it clean. If there is active bleeding, gentle pressure with a clean cloth should be applied. Seek veterinary attention if the bleeding doesn't stop.
