Why does my 2-month-old puppy have diarrhea? When to see a vet?

Dr .. My puppy was 2 months old and he had diarrhea from last 2 days.. he Not doing potty frequently but whenever he do that potty like liquid types ..please help me ..what can I do ...?

Oh no, poor Kitto! From one of the pictures, it looks as if there may be blood in the diarrhea, and I would be concerned that is a sign she has parvovirus. She isn't old enough to be fully vaccinated against parvo, and unfortunately parvo is quite contagious and deadly. The diarrhea could also be caused by intestinal worms, eating something rotten or toxic, a GI illness, or a foreign body. When a puppy has diarrhea longer than 24 hours, it's time to see a vet. I would take Kitto into a vet immediately so that the cause of her diarrhea can be diagnosed and treated. I hope this helps!

I'm sorry to hear that! The most common cause of diarrhea in puppies this age would be intestinal parasites such as roundworms, hookworms, or coccidia. Young pups like this can get very sick, very quickly so I would recommend taking them to the vet today for an exam if possible. He/she can do a fecal exam to check for parasites or other abnormalities and get them started on appropriate medication to treat the problem.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your puppy. I would have her seen by her veterinarian today. That is a lot of diarrhea for her to have and I worry she will become dehydrated from the fluid loss. She will likely need fecal testing and a medication depending on the results. Ensure she drinks plenty of water in the meantime. I hope this information helps!

If Kiki has mild diarrhea but is acting normal and has a good appetite, she may have ingested something she shouldn't have - puppies explore the world with their mouth, and sometimes they eat things that can upset their GI tracts! You can give her some bland food (white rice and lowfat cooked chicken) and see if it improves in the next day or two. Many mild cases of diarrhea are self-limiting and will resolve with bland food. If, however, the diarrhea is severe, or is accompanied by a decreased appetite or vomiting, or continues more than a couple days, Kiki should be seen by a vet. Diarrhea can be caused by many things including stress, diet changes, and infections, and your vet will be able to help differentiate what's going on and start her on medication if needed. So I got home and my puppy golden retriever threw up and he had diarrhea. His threw up was like brown tan color and his poop was light brown. He’s very down, he doesn’t want to play or anything. I’m very worried and don’t know what to do.
I would take Opie into a vet immediately. He's just over two months old, and he will not be fully vaccinated yet so my first concern is parvovirus. He could also have a GI illness, may have eaten something rotten, or could have a foreign body. Whenever a young puppy is both vomiting and having diarrhea, it's time to see a vet right away. The vet can diagnose what is causing his symptoms, and can treat him. Best of luck.

My 7month puppy has been having diarrhea on and off since Monday and picked once on a Tuesday just liquid. Do you think it’s anything I should be worried about or will it pass?
Poor Morticia! The diarrhea could be due to many conditions including eating something she shouldn’t have, bacterial over growth, parasites or even organ disease. If the diarrhea has continued beyond 24 hours, I recommend to have her examined by the veterinarian. With continued diarrhea, there are often bacterial shifts in the gut that will make matters worse regardless of the initial cause. Make sure to bring in a sample of fresh stool. The doctor will check her for parasites and bacterial over growth. Many times a bland diet can help and then a slow, gradual introduction to the normal food can be done. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. I hope Morticia starts feeling better quickly! I have a 6 month old puppy who is active and still eats but the 4 days she has done nothing but hd the watery runs what do I do?
Hi there! The clinical signs you describe are concerning when they occur in a puppy as they can be seen with serious gastrointestinal infections such as Parvovirus. Other possibilities include intestinal worms and dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. The sooner these conditions are treated the better the outcome tends to be. For this reason, I recommend that you have Daisey evaluated by your veterinarian to check for these possibilities and to start therapy based on findings. At the very least they can address dehydration if present and start her on anti-diarrhea medications. Good luck! Keeping my fingers crossed for your girl!

My dog is about nine months old. She has diarrhea, she does not eat any of her dog foods, and she threw up a couple of days ago. Should I be concerned?
Dogs with vomiting and diarrhea that are not improving within 24 hours should be seen by a veterinarian. Intestinal foreign body, intestinal parasites, and parvovirus are among the common causes in young dogs. I would encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. I have a 8 week old husky wolf mix and she's had dihreah for a couple of days but with no blood and she's throwing up for the first time should I be concerned ?
Yes, I would be concerned, as it's not normal for a puppy to have diarrhea for a couple of days, and to then start vomiting. I would have Sasha seen by a vet today. These symptoms could be caused by GI illness, eating something rotten, intestinal parasites, a foreign body, or parvovirus (even though you haven't seen blood in it). The vet can do a physical exam, blood tests to check for parvo and to see if infection is present, and a urinalysis to diagnose what is causing her symptoms so she can be treated.

There are several possible causes of diarrhea including food intolerance, parasites, viral or bacterial infection, and stress. Puppies with diarrhea can become dehydrated quickly. If you have access to a veterinarian, I recommend taking Misty in to be evaluated as soon as you can. If you do not have access to a veterinarian, you can offer Misty a bland diet with rice and egg. Try feeding several small meals per day rather than one or two large meals. Once her diarrhea improves you can start adding back in her regular food. When she is feeling better she is due for her first set of puppy vaccinations, and this will need to be repeated at 12 and 16 weeks of age. I hope she is feeling better soon.

With a dog so young, I would recommend taking her in for an exam because she can get dehydrated quickly with both vomiting and diarrhea. The cause could be a reaction to the vaccine (although less likely because it's her second round, and reactions would usually only take an hour or two), an infection, intestinal parasites, or it's very possible a cause won't be found. Some supportive care (some combo of fluids, anti vomiting and anti-diarrhea medication, bland food, and probiotics) can help her recover if no cause is found.
