My dog's allergies cause swollen ears, throat, and shaking. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Lhasa Apso | Female | spayed | 7 years and 7 months old | 25 lbs

My dog has seasonal allergies every year at this time. She gets itchy and we give her a short haircut, benedryl, and use aloe on her itchy skin. Today her ears and throat are all swollen, and she keeps vibrating/shaking on and off. I am not sure what's going on.

Hello, sorry to hear about Bailey. It sounds as though she may be having a more severe degree of her seasonal allergies and may require medical management for her allergic reaction. You should have Bailey examined by a veterinarian today to ensure she is not at risk of an anaphylactic reaction as this can be much more severe than your typical allergic skin disease. She may need medications such as injectable benadryl, steroids, or epinephrine. If there throat gets too swollen, the biggest concern is that she may be unable to breathe. Hope this helps and best of luck.
