My dog's deep eye ulcer is red and painful. Does it need more treatment?

Pet's info: Dog | Lhasa Apso | Female | spayed | 13.2 lbs

Female Lhasas left eye has an ulcer. We were perscribed terramycin ophthalmic ointment. I am nervous because it's very deep. The eye is really red & closed partially. Should be be taking more aggressive action?

I would recommend taking Sadie back in for a recheck. If the eye is very painful it may need more aggressive therapy. Many times all stars require medication every two hours around the clock. And or in some cases surgical debridement or repair is necessary. If you feel her I was not improving discuss referral to a veterinary ophthalmologist to have her Eye evaluated. Also discuss pain medication options with your veterinarian, as ulcers can be very painful. Do not give anything over the counter or that was knots prescribe for Sadie has the wrong medications can make it significantly worse.     Hi there and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Eye ulcers can quickly become complicated, so it is important to maintain close contact with your veterinarian during treatment. Typically, ulcers are diagnosed by a fluorescein stain (yellow dye) that allows us to determine the extent of the ulcer. The usual treatment for superficial uncomplicated ulcers is a topical antibiotic ointment or drops such as terramycin. Usually a cone collar is needed to ensure dogs don't paw at their face or irritate it further. The eye should improve over subsequent days, and not worsen. If you feel that Sadie is becoming more painful despite treatment, it would be a good idea to recheck with your veterinarian.
