My dog has a dark, hard spot on his hip. Is it skin cancer or other?

My dog is a Chihuahua mix and he has a flat dark colored spot on his right hip. It appeared a few weeks ago and hasn't changed at all. It's flat but a little hard and you can't pinch the skin under it at all. He hasn't seemed sick at all. He still east and drinks and is active. I'm worried this could be some tilype of skin cancer. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 2 years and 1 month old | 14 lbs

Hi there! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is unlikely to be cancer given his age and breed though possible. I think other skin diseases are more likely like dermatitis possibly secondary to allergies. I recommend that you have Benji evaluated by your veterinarian to try to sort this out further and at the very least start anti-microbial therapy for him based on the findings. Good luck!
