My dog's stomach gurgles, pants, shakes. Should I ask for an X-ray?

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Poodle | Male | neutered | 2 years and 7 months old | 10 lbs

Hello. My dog is a mini poodle, 2 years old, about 10 lbs. Occasionally he gets an upset stomach, as in I can hear it gurgling, and he pants and shakes. I've taken him to the vet twice for this, and both times they've given him metronidazole and he's finished the course. His stool appears normal but it's obvious he's in pain. He becomes so attached to any person and pants and shakes. Should I ask for an x ray? How can I ease his pain? Looking for a second opinion here. Thanks so much.

I'm sorry to hear that Geddy isn't feeling well. If you hear the gurgling and it correspond to his panting and shaking, it may be GI pain or cramping that he is experiencing, even if he's not vomiting or having diarrhea. I would recommend doing blood work and x-rays of his abdomen to see if there's any abnormalities there. If there are abnormalities that show up, the vet will recommend treatments or possibly further diagnostics. He may even need an ultrasound, which is a great way to closely evaluate all the organs in his abdomen. This may be needed to get down to the cause of his gurgling and discomfort. I hope this helps and that Geddy gets better soon!
