My dog is panting, shaking, has a hard stomach, and can't pee. Urgent?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Schnoodle | Female | spayed | 7 years and 10 months old

My schnoodle is panting, shaking, her heart rate is elevated and her stomach feels hard. She's continuously squatting to urinate but nothing is coming out. Do I need to take her into an emergency vet tonight or can it wait until the morning?

HI, I am so sorry to hear about Smoki. Based on your description of what she is doing at home she needs to head to an emergency veterinarian right away. She sounds very uncomfortable and is straining to urinate. Reasons for this might be a urinary tract infection, bladder stones (common in her mixed breed), or a urinary obstruction (very rare in females but can happen). The sooner she can get evaluated the better for her. Best of luck with Smoki.
