How to get rid of cat fleas without worsening their dry skin?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 6 lbs

Hello was wondering if you could help me I have two cats both girls and about six years old. I have fleas that I'm trying to get rid of but they both have dry skin now. Anything I can do? I'm trying to wait a little before putting any more flea stuff on them because I don't want to make them sick. Please help me. Thank you!

I think the best option would be to give your cats an oral flea medication like Comfortis. This medication is very effective and will get the problem under control fairly quickly. This will also be helpful so you won't have to apply anything else to the skin since it sounds like they have some skin issues already. I would also recommend to vacuum well throughout the house and clean all the cat's bedding (this will help remove flea eggs). I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck.
