When can my puppy potty outside after shots? Flea/tick/heartworm?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 3 months and 4 days old | 16 lbs

I have a 3 month old puppy who gets her 3rd round of shots on August 26,2017. I was wondering when it will be pkay for her to starting peeing outside. Also, does she need flea/ tick treatment and heartworm treatment before going out?

Sage is protected enough that she can start going outside to pee. I would wait to have her mix with other dogs until two weeks after her last set of vaccinations so she'll be fully protected. Yes you should start her right away on heartworm and flea/tick medication. Ask what they recommend for your area when you get her last vaccinations as there are many good products. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Sage.
