Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | neutered
My wife is suffering a really bad skin rash on her arms and legs. We recently visited n my sister who has a shihtzu dog. We visited our Doctor and we tried anti histamine treatment, but it made no difference. He has put her on steroids today for a week. We had contact with the dog last Friday and the symptoms appeared Sunday morning when my wife got up. Nothing new or unusual ate. Is it a likely connection?

Hi and thanks for your question. There is a possibility, but I would have to know the dog's history in order to come have a better idea. People can get certain diseases from animals, yes. These are called Zoonotic infections. Ones that effect the skin tend to be fungal infections or sarcoptic mange infections. Sarcoptic mange is very itchy but is normally self limiting in humans as the mites can not reproduce on a human host. If you'd like to discuss this in more detail, you can request a text or phone consult with me and we can talk through this. It will help me get a better idea so I can help you.
