My old cat's swollen stomach got worse after meds, what should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 20 lbs

My cat has developed swelling in her stomach and was given medication but it only made it worse. She keeps going outside for pretty much all day and meowing at us for no reason. She's old and we just want to do what's best for her.

I'm sorry to hear Tash isn't doing very well! If the medicine given to her didn't help and she seems in distress or pain still (meowing excessively can indicate this), then it is best to return to the vet for either additional testing or a different medication to see if it helps. Tests such as bloodwork, fecal exam, or X-rays, if not done already, can help determine if there is an underlying illness or injury causing Tash to not feel well and can help your vet pick a treatment plan that will help get her feeling better.
