Is it safe to walk my dog if he falls, drags paws, struggles running?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 11 months old | 11 lbs

Is walking my dog good since he topples over sometimes. Draggs front paws. Tries to run but falls over forward but gets back up able to walk at slow steady pace

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I am so sorry for your concerns with Brian. These are pretty significant signs for a relatively young dog. I hope he has been seen by your veterinarian to determine the cause. If the underlying reason for his difficulties have been thoroughly investigated, & exercise in not contraindicated, then walking is always good. Keeping Brian on grass, walking with a harness rather than collar, or using a lift assist vest would all keep him from injuring himself. Supervised swimming might be beneficial, as well. You might talk to your vet about a certified veterinary rehab. specialists in your area. All the best to you & Brian.
