Is my small dog's 60 BPM heart rate too low for spaying surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 2 months old | 11 lbs

I've noticed that my miniature dachshunds heart rate is a lot lower then the average small dogs. Her resting heart rate is in the 60 BPM which seems really low. I read that it should be in the mid 100s which hers is far from it I'm concerned about getting her spayed because of it.

Resting heart rate in the 60s for a small breed dog is a little low. However, I see dogs regularly (usually at least a little larger) that do have heart rates in the 60s. They are usually extremely activity dogs who get tons of exercise. If this isn't the case, you might want to consider a cardiac work up by your veterinarian and/or cardiologist prior to an anesthetic procedure. Chest x-rays and an echocardiogram would be the best place to start. Hope this helps.
