My dog has hives, itching, and vomited after Benadryl. Vet needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 6 months old | 24 lbs

My dog has been itching for a couple days on and off. But today I noticed the itching getting worse and she now looks like she's breaking out in hives mostly on her head, face, and legs. But I'm not sure thats what they are .So I gave her a bath then I gave her a Benadryl and she threw up maybe an hour and half later. The hives looked like they were fading but an hour after she threw up they came back. She's acting mostly the same just itchy. What should I do?

I would recommend taking Piper to the vet. If she is vomiting and has hives then she could be having a significant allergic reaction. She may require steroids or injectable antihistamines or other medication. Good luck and I hope piper is better soon.

This could still be a part of the allergic reaction. If your dog keeps vomiting I suggest you take Olli to a petER for an exam as well as medication to stop the vomiting. Your dog may also need other medication to counteract further allergic reactions.
