Is it normal for a cat to be aggressive after getting outside?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My indoor cat got outside for 30 minutes or so and then I heard meowing and shook a treat bag and she never came and found her under the deck. It took 20 minutes to get her out far enough to grab her. When she got inside she was growling, hissing, meowing and her tail was puffy. She was growling at me and my other cat and hissing. Is this normal for a cat to act when they got outside?

I think it is normal behavior for a cat that just got wrangled out from under a deck. Cats really hate to be forced to do anything and when they get in that hyper-excitable state, they tend to be grumpy for a while. Give her a little space for about 30 minutes and see if she calms down. Sometimes it takes a day or two, before they return to normal. If she continues to be abnormally grumpy for longer than 30 minutes, then I would be concerned that she may be hurt. Check her for any obvious injuries and if you find anything concerning, then it's best to have her checked by a vet.
