Dog on chemo for lymphoma has nosebleeds. Is it a side effect?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Female | spayed | 8 years and 4 months old | 89 lbs

My 8 yr female golden has lymphoma. She has been on prednisone and chemo treatments for 2 months now. Swelling of lymph nodes has almost completely subsided. Today she started bleeding from the nose.. 2x it seems to stop w/in 3 to 5 minutes. Are the nose bleeds from the meds or illness?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! i am sorry to hear of Daisy's illness! Causes of nose bleeds are: trauma, foreign body in the nose, bacterial or fungal infections, low platelets, clotting disorders, cancer, tick borne diseases. The nose bleed could be from the chemo knocking her platelets down too low or sadly it could be that the lymphoma is in her nasal cavity. I recommend you take her to your Vet or her oncologist and have them run a CBC to check her platelets. They can also put her on a Chinese herbal remedy that can help stop bleeding called Yunnan Baiyao. I wish Daisy the best!!
