Why can't I see puppies before their 8-week vaccinations? Is it safe?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Male | unneutered | 26 days old | 3 lbs

Hello! We're getting a Cavalier puppy soon and we've been talking with the Breeder and she said that we can't see the puppies til they get their first shot at 8 weeks - is that normal? Are the puppies actually in danger by interacting with people before their first shots? Thanks for your help!

I believe this is actually a good sign. This breeder has he health of the puppies in mind above all else. It is less likely that they contract something from your visit then form interactions with other dogs. It is still best practice for them to be left alone with their mother until the weaning process begins. To ensure no disturbances to their bond and the mother's milk supply. Perhaps you can ask the breeder for pictures of videos until then?
