My pug has recurring skin issues and a growing wart. What can I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Male | unneutered | 4 years and 5 months old

I have a pug who is about 5 yrs old. For the last 3 years he is suffering from some kind of a skin infection. Took him to the vet several times. The doctor prescribed some ointments and expressed his doubt that it could be an yeast infection. We did apply the oinments, but it hasnt changed yet. He also has a huge wart above the tail which has gotten bigger over the year. A small one arises and merges with the bigger wart. Please tell me what could be wrong with him.

Mickey has a sweet face! It does look like he has had chronic skin infections. Make sure they are checking his skin for yeast, bacteria, and mites. I recommend having his thyroid checked to make sure it's not under active. If that is normal, talk with your vet about flea allergies, environmental allergies, and food allergies. There is likely something he is allergic to causing the frequent infections. You will still need to treat the infection but together you can find a way to manage his allergies and decrease their frequency. I hope this helps! Kisses to Mickey!
