Is normal for the the mom and male dog (dad) to lose appetite after giving birth?

Hi and thank you for your question! Loss of appetite shortly after giving birth for the mom isn't uncommon but the loss of appetite in the breeding male is not common unless he has an underlying health issue. If appetite loss continues past 24 hours for mom then I would be concerned about a health issue: metritis, mastitis, or low calcium, and she should have a visit to her veterinarian- same for the dad if his appetite does not return soon.

Partial loss of appetite could be completely normal the days after giving birth. Try to offer her very palatable and appetible food (like chicken for example!) and see if the appetite gets slightly better in the next 48hours. If not a check up would be needed to make sure everything it is all right with her.
