Why is my male cat bleeding from his rear and acting strangely?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | spayed | 15 years old | 16 lbs

My male cat has been acting a little strange. The first day he was meowing a lot throughout the day and wanted nothing to do with anyone, he would hiss and meow cry when we would get close. I picked him up and looked him over, noticing nothing. Toda, I came home and he was wet and covered in cat litter. I gave him a bath and brushed him. While brushing his backside, I noticed 2 small drops of blood, it seems to be coming from his perineal area. What do I do? Any suggestions. Thanks Miracle

I would be very suspicious that he had a urinary blockage, was able to pass the obstructing material and that's when he got all wet and litter covered and may have passed blood. It would be the best plan if action to take him to your veterinarian for an exam and a urinalysis. Explain exactly what is going on. He may have an infection, crystalsi in his urine or bladder stones. If he was obstructed, he could do it again very soon and this can be a life threatening emergency.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your friend's cat. Yes, this is a worrisome sign in a male cat. He will need to see a veterinarian and have a urine sample evaluated. He could have an infection, however, this is rare in male cats. Bladder stones are more common or even general inflammation in the bladder is a possibility. Rarely a bleeding disorder could be the cause. His veterinarian will do a thorough examination and then make diagnostic recommendations. If he is straining to urinate, this is an emergency and he must be seen right away. I hope this information helps!
