My cat ate liverwurst rind. Should I take her to the emergency vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Our cat seems to have swallowed the rind to a piece of liverwurst. She seems OK now, but we are concerned that it could cause internal damage. Should we take her to an emergency clinic immediately?

The size of the rind is the biggest deciding factor. If the piece is fairly small, it may pass on it's own. If it was a big piece, it could cause an obstruction. If it has just happened, you could take her to an emergency clinic to have them induce vomiting or they may be able to retrieve the piece of rind if it's still in her stomach using an endoscope. I would also be concerned about vomiting and diarrhea just from eating something so rich and fatty.
