My puppy has green/white pus-filled skin sores. What's the cause?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Great Dane | Female | unspayed | 10 lbs

I have a Great Dane puppy who is about 7 weeks old and she keeps getting this sores about the size of a dime that are filled with a greenish/white pus. They seem to just come up in a day. I got her from a very poor home and she was very wormy had a large amount of fleas and ticks. I was just wondering if y'all could give me any kind of information if it could be a food allergy or possibly ant bites? I've had her for a week and she seems to be doing much better but still concerned. Thank you

Hi there! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Thanks for rescuing; it is much needed these days. These lesions in a puppy could be linked to a variety of skin conditions such as flea allergy, mites and mange, among others. Even though food allergy is possible, it seems less likely at this time. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian to check for these conditions to try to direct therapy at the specific cause. From the picture and your description, these lesions are likely also secondarily infected by bacteria. Most of these conditions are treatable so you will see an improvement in Sally's condition fairly quickly when treated appropriately. Good luck!
