My dog's painless throat lump swelled suddenly. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 11 months old | 59 lbs

My dog had a small painless lump on the left side of her throat it hasn't changed much in a week, until I woke up today and it's now swelled to around the size of a grapefruit, still not causing any pain. Unfortunately I don't get paid for a few days and can't go a vet, I feel terrible and like im harming her can this be serious ? If so, I will have to come up with funds to take her ASAP thanks for any help.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I understand your concern about Annabella! I am worried about her too. Andy lump that grows rapidly is of concern. It could be an abscess, an enlarged lymph node, or an enlarged salivary gland. If she is acting ok then it is probably fine to wait a few days, but I recommend you have her seen this week or as soon as she starts acting abnormal. Good luck!
