What health problems and grooming tips are common for Chihuahuas?

Hello I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I may need to watch with my dog batman. He is a chuawawa sorry I can't quite spell it right. I would just like to know any medical problems that he may get or have. Like common things that they get. He is well kept up mostly he is not paperd with red meat or a little carriage we pull him in he gets a nice bed sleeps in my bed and has free access to his food when he is in the mood to eat nothing special. Hello there and thank you for posting your question! Chihuahuas can be great dogs! With this particular breed, I would say that they tend to be scared of other people or dogs typically. Dental disease is also a big problem in this breed. I would suggest getting his teeth cleaned once to twice a year to prevent periodontal disease if you are able to. Make sure you keep the nails trimmed regularly as they can grow fast and if not taken care of, can grow into the paw pads. If you haven't gotten him on any heartworm prevention I would also do this. If he is over the age of seven, I would make sure a blood panel is checked with him once per year. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
