My pug is aggressive to our baby. Is it a brain tumor or behavior?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Female | spayed | 5 years and 10 months old | 15 lbs

My 6 y/o pug attacks against most other dogs (since we moved to the States 10 months ago) and has now attacked (bit) our baby. She growls and sees him as a prey. The energy is very tense when she is in the same room as the baby. A behaviourist spent 4 hours with us and advised us to take her to a pug rescue or put her down, because its impossible to train this behavior. Is it worth taking her to vet to out rule a brain tumor? Or is there anything that you suggest we should do?

I am sorry you are going through this with siggy. I have two small children myself and I love my dogs with all my heart but I have to protect my children first. I would make sure to never leave siggy unattended with your child and make sure there is always distance between them (never put siggy and baby on bed/floor etc together). Siggy could be sick- brain tumor/brain disease or as she is getting older her behavior is changing due to stress/control and anxiety. Some dogs can get better with aggression if you work hard with a trainer and sometimes use behavioral modification drugs. I still would not trust siggy with your child but he might be okay to stay in parts of the house. IF you 100% want to know if siggy has a brain issue a neurologist would be the best place to go. I hope things improve!
