Is rosemary extract in dog food harmful? I've seen articles online.

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 6 months old | 27 lbs

Is rosemary extract / rosemary oil potentially bad for dogs? I've seen articles about it online, but a lot of "natural" dog foods have it as an ingredient, Nutro for example.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Good question and I hope Annabelle is doing well. The most important thing to know is that some essential oils are purified to be consumed and some are not. I'm sure that the pet food companies use the purest of essential extracts and oils when making food due to the high likelihood of making pets sick which can cripple a company. The purified extracts and oils are made for pet and human consumption, having the other chemicals in them purified out. I'm sure it's ok and rosemary is under extensive study due to it's anti inflammatory properties and cancer fighting properties. Good question and good luck with Annabelle.
