My new puppy has runny yellow diarrhea. What can I do before the vet?

I just bought a puppy and the breeder had Wormed him and he has not done anything but have runny yellow diarrhea I'm gonna take him to the vet tomorrow what can I do now to help him .

Hi there. The type of bowel movements you are describing makes me suspicious of coccidia (and likely other parasites as well). Usually I recommend deworming at least 3 times (once every 3-4 weeks) for puppies. Your vet will easily be able to diagnose this if it is present with a simple stool sample for a fecal test. Until you can get him there and get him treated-one of my favorite things to give is Gatorade or Pedialyte-especially to puppies losing a lot of fluid in diarrhea. It helps keep their electrolytes up and encourages them to drink more to stay hydrated! I would avoid medications and antidiarrheals if you are going in tomorrow-some of these can cause their own gi upset, especially OTC human medications. If he is still eating and drinking well, he should be ok until tomorrow. If he begins vomiting, etc-it might be in your best interest to go on in to the emergency vet on call so he can receive immediate care. I hope this helps and that Lucian feels better soon!
