Kitten threw up after vaccine. Should I worry if he's acting normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 19 days old

Hello, Our kitten got his first vaccination yesterday and this morning he vomited up his undigested food. Our local vet is closed today and I don't know if this is serious. He's been acting normal but I'm just concerned, Thanks, Amanda

Hi Amanda! I'm sorry that Mongeau vomited today. You can see vomiting as a side effect of the vaccines, and it's only a concern if it's protracted and continuing vomiting. Given that he only did it once, I wouldn't be too concerned. Keep an eye on it, and try feeding him some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts to see if that helps settle his stomach. If he vomits the chicken, then I would be concerned and recommend you take him into a vet right away. You can see if there is an ER vet in your area; If not, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. I hope this helps!

If Garrus threw up one time only i would not be too worried about it, this can be a reaction to the vaccine and as long as he is not very lethargic these symptoms are considered quite normal. i would expect him to get back to his normal self within 24 hours of the vaccination.
