Kitten threw up after vaccine. Should I worry if he's acting normal?

Hello, Our kitten got his first vaccination yesterday and this morning he vomited up his undigested food. Our local vet is closed today and I don't know if this is serious. He's been acting normal but I'm just concerned, Thanks, Amanda

Hi Amanda! I'm sorry that Mongeau vomited today. You can see vomiting as a side effect of the vaccines, and it's only a concern if it's protracted and continuing vomiting. Given that he only did it once, I wouldn't be too concerned. Keep an eye on it, and try feeding him some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts to see if that helps settle his stomach. If he vomits the chicken, then I would be concerned and recommend you take him into a vet right away. You can see if there is an ER vet in your area; If not, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.     If Garrus threw up one time only i would not be too worried about it, this can be a reaction to the vaccine and as long as he is not very lethargic these symptoms are considered quite normal. i would expect him to get back to his normal self within 24 hours of the vaccination.

This can be normal! You can see some vomiting after getting vaccines and given that Faelan only vomited once, I would not be too worried. Plus he sounds like he is otherwise acting normally. I would keep an eye on him and if you see protracted vomiting, diarrhea, signs of an allergic reaction (facial swelling, difficulty breathing, then I would be worried and rush him into an ER vet immediately. My kitten got his distemper vaccine today and now he threw up.. should I be worried??
A one time throw up I am not too concerned. If he is a little more tired today that can also be normal. I start to get concerned when they have excessive vomiting, difficulty breathing or swelling of anywhere. I would monitor Freddy tonight if he only vomited once and otherwise acting fine. If he continues to vomit or has any other symptoms, I would recommend bringing Freddy to the veterinarian to have him evaluated. Vaccine reactions are rare but they can happen. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Possible side effects after vaccines include pain at the injection site, lethargy, inappetence, vomiting and general discomfort. This should subside within 1-2 days. The vomiting could certainly be due to other reasons like gastroenteritis. If it does not improve or it worsens, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Otherwise, him will likely start feeling better shortly. Good luck and best wishes!

As long as she is behaving normally now, there is likely no cause for concern. She may have had a mild vaccine reaction. If she is due for more vaccines, mention this episode to your veterinarian before the next round. Monitor for continued symptoms and see your vet if they persist or worsen.

Yes getting 2-3 vaccines at once is very normal for cats (probably 80+% of cat vaccine appointments). If vomiting occurs right after vaccines (within 12 hours) I would be concerned about a vaccine reaction. But if it's further out than that it's almost certainly not related. Diarrhea is not a common vaccine reaction, so overall I'm concerned something different is going on with your kitty. Since he's back to normal now, I don't think you need a vet visit, but if the vomiting or diarrhea start up again, I'd definitely recommend an exam and discussion. I wouldn't worry about vaccinating him next year from this description.

Hi, and thanks for your question. This is a quite generic but concerning presentation. Differentials are many, from vaccine side effects to any gastrointestinal diseases (infection/inflammations often dietary related) to any disease that can spread systemically (causing lethargy for example) like infection, and anything that can cause pain/discomfort. The approach must be logic, starting from offering different kind of food. A check up is needed if inappetence lasts for more than 24hours. My 14 week old kitten just got his vaccine two days ago and is having loose stool is that normal?
Hi there. Some pets may have some mild GI upset after vaccinations, so this certainly could be normal. If he's acting normal otherwise (eating and drinking fine, no vomiting, etc.),. then it should be okay to just monitor for now. If it doesn't resolve in the next 2-3 days, or if he develops any other symptoms such as vomiting or not wanting to eat, then I would recommend having him checked by your vet to make sure nothing else is wrong.

Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. Vomiting repeatedly in a cat can be a sign of gastritis (he ate something that upset his stomach), a blockage in the GI tract, a toxin, or other diseases of the body including kidneys/liver/diabetes, etc. If Oliver is playing, acting normally and is eating and drinking, I would recommend just feeding him boiled/boneless/skinless chicken breasts and boiled rice in small frequent meals for a few days. If he is eating/pooping normally and the vomiting resolves, it was likely a mild gastritis. If Oliver is weak/tired, not eating, or the vomiting gets worse at all, he needs to go to a vet right away for x-rays to make sure he doesn't have a blockage or a severe gastritis/pancreatitis. If there is a blockage he will die without surgery, so if the vomiting continues get him to a vet right away. Best of luck with Oliver.

This is very common after vaccines. Let him be alone tonight and let him rest. I would not be concerned unless he starts vomiting, having diarrhea, has hives or a swollen face. If any of these symptoms are noticed that I would contact your vet as this is likely a vaccine reaction. Also make sure he is still eating. He may not eat tonight but his appetite should pick up by tomorrow. If he isn't starting to act more normal in the next day or two, contact your vet for an exam.

You can see some vomiting after shots, and while it is concerning, it doesn't sound like a lot of vomiting. I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps Dexter. Withhold food tonight, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he refuses to eat the bland diet, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.
