Why is there crumb-like stuff on my dog's nail after spay surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 6 months and 10 days old | 10 lbs

My dog has this crumb like stuff on her nail. Her nails were trimmed a day ago during her spaying operation. What is that stuff and should I be worried? she walks normally and isn't chewing at it because of the cone she wears due to her spaying operation.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Pet Coach about Bell. The yellow, "crumb-like" material on the tips of her nails is a product from the vet clinic called Quick Stop. It is applied to some of the nails after a nail trim if the "quick" of the nail is exposed (meaning there was just a bit of bleeding at the very tip). Neither exposing the quick nor the small amount of blood does any harm to Bell. The Quick Stop works very effectively. It will wear off by itself over the next day or so and if she does end up licking at her feet it is not a problem. Thank you for your question.
