Is it safe to feed my pet food that's been open for 3 months?

Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Female | spayed | 5 years and 1 month old | 17 lbs

Hello, The manufacturer says their food is good for 3 months after opening. Is this ok or should it be consumed sooner? Why or why not?

The recommendation of how long a food lasts is usually arbitrary and often not based on any studies, so it's difficult to say how accurate this information is. Of course, storing food for a long time can lead to infestations and growth of harmful microorganisms, but this depends on how the food is stored and the climate you live in.
