My dog eats leaves when we play ball. Is this normal or a concern?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 6 years and 2 months old | 78 lbs

When I take my dog outside to play ball he will stop and eat leaves. And it's only when he plays ball. I've tried telling him no, but I can't get him to stop. My other dog does not do this. Should I be considered?

HI and thank you for reaching out about Bentley. I do not think you need to have a medical concern for this. Bentley must really enjoy playing with leaves. Maybe allow him to play with leaves first for awhile and then begin throwing the ball for him. That way he gets the best of both activities :)
