My cat won't put weight on his front paw. Could it be a sprain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Bombay | Male | neutered | 5 years and 3 months old

One of my cats is reluctant to put weight on front left paw. No obvious signs of injury or wound. Can move shoulder fine. Cat is 6 year old male outdoors cat. Doesn't go very far and only reall "scraps" with his little sister. He's not breathing laboriously, just seems tired. Could this just be a sprain?

Yes could definitively be a soft tissue injury, which probably will improve even without specific treatment but only with complete rest. If signs are not resolving in 48 hours I would recommend a check up as some anti-inflammatory and pain relief treatment will be necessary.
