My 14 yr old maltese was given one 22.7 mg baytril per day for a uti. My vet is off till Monday. Is this too much for her. She weighs 5.8 lbs. She threw up and from my research it seems like a high dose for her. My 14 yr old maltese was given one 22.7 mg baytril per day for a uti. My vet is off till Monday. Is this too much for her. I'm sorry to hear that your little girl is not feeling well. For a UTI, that is an appropriate dose of Baytril. Unfortunately, Baytril, along with most other antibiotics, can cause vomiting. You can either try to give the pill with food or cut it in half and give half of the tablet every 12 hours. This way she still gets the full pill every day, but decreasing the amount given at one time may decrease the upset stomach she is experiencing. If she continues to vomit, I would recommend contacting your veterinarian as she may need to get a different antibiotic if she can't tolerate the Baytril.
