Why isn't my 4-week-old puppy pooping? Her belly is swollen.

Have one mini schnauser that is 4 weks old...formula changed from powder to liquid cause store was out...I haven't seen poop in 4 days despite my efforts. I added water to weaken the premixed formula a little...I tried karo syrup to make her go..finally last night and tonight I have done a warm water enima...i have been using pyrantle for wormer starting at 2 weeks. Not much poo came out either time and belly still swelly...

Lola needs to see a vet immediately if she hasn't pooped in four days. Please do not give her another enema, it's never recommended owners given enemas to their pets because great harm can be done by it. She needs veterinary treatment now to help her poop. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

Oh no, poor Molly! I would take her into a the vet right away. It's quite serious that she hasn't pooped in three days, and it could be caused by anal sac impaction, intestinal parasites, a foreign body, too little fiber in the diet, lack of exercise, or even tumors in the GI tract. The vet can give her a laxative or an enema to help her poop, or it may need to be removed manually under sedation. The vet can also diagnose the cause of the constipation and can treat her for it. Please do not give her a human enema. In addition to potentially causing trauma to her colon, human enemas are not safe to use in dog's due causing electrolyte imbalances.

Poor Mia! Sounds like she may be constipated. Since she is so young and little, I would talk to your vet and see if they can look at her. They will be able to palpate her belly to see how much poop is in her colon and they can even give her an enema if needed. They may check for worms to ensure that isn’t the cause of this. Finally, they may give her some stool softener to help her have a bowel movement. Until you can get into the vet you can try some some canned pumpkin by mouth if you can get her to eat it. She would only need about 1/4 teaspoon twice a day. I hope this helps!

Oh the poor puppy! How lovely of you to take her in! I would be very concerned that she hasn't pooped in two days, and this severe constipation could be caused by a significant burden of intestinal worms. That would also cause her the diarrhea the day before. She certainly isn't healthy enough to get vaccines if she isn't pooping, and it's extremely important that she is seen by a vet right away since she hasn't pooped in two days. I would take her into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see her ASAP.

My puppy's stomach has swollen/distended/solidified and can't poo. she's constantly whining in pain and is only eating a little bit of her food. Can i please have some ideas as to what could be wrong.
It sounds like she could have a large load of intestinal parasites, a blockage, or severe constipation. I would see your vet for an exam since she is so small. She can easily become dehydrated or sicker if not address. Your vet will be able to do a fecal and possible X-rays if needed. I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It could be big if it recently ate. You can also rub the rectal area with a wet cloth to stimulate the puppy to poop. If it really isn’t poopIng at all, then I would be concerned there is a defect preventing the puppy from pooping. If it’s just not going often, continue to stimulate with the wet cloth every 2-3 hours. Good luck and kisses to the pups!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! I wouldn’t worry yet at just 36 hours. Some dogs are particular about their pooping habits. As long as she is eating, playful and not straining give her more time. If she can urinate in her own she can poop on her own. You can also call the person you got her from to double check what she did with them. Since you are seeing your vet tomorrow she should be fine. Poor Bell! Since she has been constipated for two days and your enema did not produce much relief, I recommend to take her in to see her veterinarian. A hard tummy is concerning. Constipation can result due to a lack of fiber in the diet, the nerves not firing properly to stimulate the movement of the intestines, a tumor, or if she ate something that is causing a blockage. The doctor may recommend a radiograph to look at the intestines and for any obvious causes. The doctor can also provide suppositories to help produce a stool and also stool softeners to try to move things through. The longer you wait, the worse it can get so I recommend heading in today if at all possible.

It's not normal to have blood in the stool, and if Lola didn't go at all yesterday and her stool is currently hard, it could be that she has constipation. Constipation can be caused by anal sac impaction, intestinal parasites, a foreign body, too little fiber in the diet, lack of exercise, or even tumors in the GI tract. I recommend giving her a tablespoon of canned pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling) mixed in with her food to see if that helps. If she is still constipated in 24-48 hours, she will need to see a vet as she will likely need a laxative or an enema. Your vet can diagnose the cause of the constipation as well.
