My dog had a spay complication. Is it safe to spay her later?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 10 months and 5 days old | 40 lbs

My border collie/lab mix was getting spayed but after getting the sedative to do the operation, something went wrong with her heart and the vet wouldn't tell me what and charged me for bloodwork but nothing was wrong apparently and the vet took pictures so I wouldn't sue him and refused to spay her afterwards. I just want to know if I should still get her spayed or not, she's only 10 months so should I wait a bit longer or will I not be able to get her spayed?

I couldn't give you an accurate answer without knowing what went wrong exactly, i have a feeling she had a bad reaction to one of the sedatives, this of course can happen and if this is the case a different sedative should be used next time. if your vet suspects a heart problem he should refer you to a vet cardiologist first. age wise she is fine to have the operation done, but because there was a serious complication you definitely need to wait several months if you do decide to put her through surgery again.
