Can my hyperthyroid cat take methimazole once a day while I'm away?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 13 years and 1 month old | 11 lbs

My cat is hyperthyroid and on methimazole twice a day. I am going away for a week and wanted to know if i can double up her medicine to once a day so my pet sitter would only need to make one visit a day

Hi, thanks fir using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Madeline is super cute! Yes, that is absolutely fine to have the pet sitter give methimazole once daily (double the single dose to equal her twice a day dose) while you are away! Have a great weekend!
