My cat is skinny on hyperthyroid meds. Is natural Thyroid Gold safe?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | 15 years and 7 months old | 7 lbs

My cat is 15 he has been on felimazole 7.5 mg twice a day for about 2 years now. 5 years on the meds. He is getting skinnier and I came across a product called thyroid gold today that was supposed to be all natural and effective. Any advice on stopping the meds and trying that?

I do not recommend stopping the meds unless advised by the veterinarian treating Buddy. The thyroid gold is not able to replace this medication, because it is a thyroid supplement and your cat is being treated for too much thyroid hormone. Also, this product has not been scientifically evaluated for efficacy or safety. It has also not been tested to show that the product actually has the ingredients that it claims. I would not recommend using this product for any purposes. If Buddy is getting skinny, then I would be checking his thyroid blood levels and also making sure that his kidneys are functioning well. He may actually need more medication or have another condition. It's best to have him evaluated by your vet as soon as you can. I hope that helps.
