Dog has gas and diarrhea after dental cleaning, what can I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Poodle | Female | spayed | 4 years and 6 months old | 6.2 lbs

My 4 year old toy poodle had her teeth professionally cleaned yesterday by her primary veterinary. I was told to give her wet food for the first day because her mouth would be tender and switch her back to dry food the next day. It's been 2 days since her cleaning and she's had bad gas, tummy rumbling noises, and liquid poop. I've never know my dog to have had so I'm wondering what I can do to South her stomach.

Poor Blue! The anaesthetic combined with the pain of the teeth clean can really upset their tummies. You could try feeding a diet of plain chicken and rice for a few days, but I'd urge you to give your vet a call. They shluld be able to prescribe you a gastroprotectant liquid that can help settle the tummy. If the diarrohea dies not settle it will need to be treated too.
