Why won't my dog eat? He has sensitive stomach and liver issues.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Catahoula Leopard Dog | Male | neutered | 5 years and 2 months old | 75 lbs

I have a 5 year old, 75lb Catahoula leopard mix. He doesn't seem to like any dog food. Ever since he had a liver issue a year ago, he's been weird with eating. Before he would gulp his food down. He also seems to have a sensitive stomach now. I've tried merrick LI with goats milk and crumpled treats on top. It worked at first very well but now he doesn't want it. I've tried a different, more palatable, Elm in 3 flavors-lamb duck and salmon. Doesn't want any of them. Warm water doesn't work ether

If Jack is normal weight he is eating enough and is regulating his food intake to exercise expenditure. Especially in the hot summer many dogs are less active and don't want to eat much. If he's thin then I would try a food made for sensitive stomachs or a bland one of chicken and rice. I don't like to switch around too much as the constant change can irritate their stomach and make some dogs fussy eaters. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Jack.
