My rat's pituitary tumor symptoms are gone. Was it misdiagnosed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Other | Unknown - Other | Female | unspayed | 2 years old | 2 lbs

My rat was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor a couple months ago. She used to fall over often, always seemed lost, barely ate (only soft food, peanut butter, soft cheese) and could hardly hold things or use her hands. All traditional symptoms. But now she barely falls (can't recall last time) is very alert, eats hard food, cleans herself regularly (she stopped when other symptoms were present) and seems back to normal. Was this a misdiagnoses or is it something else?

That's great news!! It's actually possible that the tumor shrunk (since they are usually non- cancerous), or she had a pituitary cyst; which could be mistaken for a tumor on x- day. It's not possible for me to know for sure without knowing how the tumor was diagnosed by the veterinarian. I think it's worth talking to the veterinarian that diagnosed it. If they think they missed the right diagnosis, then they can look for other causes of Molly's former problems and hopefully prevent them from reoccurring. I hope that helps and Molly stays healthy and happy.
