My cat has a dilated eye, weak paw, and is lethargic. Stroke?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | 9 years and 3 months old

Symptoms: Peeing out of litter box (2 wks), Right eye is dilated more than the other (1 day). He cannot use front right paw & it is is paler than others (1 day), lethargic, can't get comfortable. Has history of crystallized urine & getting plugged up (had surgery 2 years ago to unblock). Took to vet and had water injected under his skin today to clear up urine tract. Checking for infection. May not be related to eye/paw, Is it possible he had a stroke? Advice? Thank you.

The eye and paw suggest that there could be a clot (like a stroke) or other neurologic damage going on. It is possible that these issues are unrelated and coincidental to the urinary issue, but if they are related it could indicate that the original cause of the inappropriate urination is behaviorial or neurologic in origin. I recommend that Junebug get re-checked with your vet and these symptoms discussed. The only way to get a good look at what is going on in the brain is to do an MRI or CT scan, which your doctor may have to send you to a specialty practice to do. Your vet can run in-house bloodwork looking for signs of infection, bleeding, or clotting disorders.
