My 11-week-old puppy has a white flat worm in his poop. What to do?

It sounds like Buddy has tapeworms based on your description of the worms, and the treatment for them (praziquantel) is available by prescription only from the vet. I would take Buddy into the vet in the morning so he can get medication to treat his worms. I recommend Drontal, it contains praziquantel and is an excellent dewormer. He will need a second dose of the praziquantel two weeks after the first to kill all the worms. He should then be dewormed every month until he is six months old, and dewormed every three months thereafter. I hope this helps!

It could be that Roscoe has tapeworms, which requires praziquantel to treat. I'd see if the deworming medication you gave him contains praziquantel; if it does not, that's why he's still pooping out the worms. Drontal is an excellent deworming medication that contains praziquantel, and you can get it from your vet. Give him a dose as soon as you get it, then another in two weeks to kill all the worms. If the medication does contain praziquantel, give him another dose of the deworming treatment two weeks after the first. Because of the life cycle of intestinal worms, two treatments given two weeks apart are needed to kill all the worms. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

The worms you describe sound like Tapeworms and these come from fleas. These worms are not treated by the product you have been giving him. Instead he needs Praziquantel (Drontal) to successfully treat these worms or a similar product that is labeled for tapeworms. You may be able to find something similar to this at your local pet store, but you vet definitely carries this int he clinic. You should also treat Thor with a monthly flea preventative to avoid re-infection, because pets get tapeworms by ingesting an infected flea.

Hello. Without seeing the worms, it is impossible to say with complete certainty but you are probably seeing tapeworms. Tapeworms require a different medication than the normal dewormer given to puppies. They are not dangerous and are typically associated with a flea issue.. whether your pup has fleas now or before you got him. It is easily treated with an oral medication that you can obtain from your veterinarian on Tuesday. Keep in mind that tapeworms can recur and can recur frequently if there are fleas on your puppy or in his environment. Thank you for using Boop by Petco

Hello. Thank you for using Boop by Petco. Tapeworms need a special dewormer in order to treat them. It is called praziquantel. I suggest you get her to one of the VETCO clinics put on by Petco stores as they can prescribe/dispense this medication for you. What you are describing does sound like a tapeworm segment - these are usually short, flat, and wiggly. You're correct that Droncit would be an effective dewormer for this problem - this is a prescription-only medication in most states, so you will need to get this from your vet.

I'm not sure what deworming treatment you used, but if it didn't contain praziquantel, then it will not kill tapeworms if Willow has them. Tapeworms require praziquantel to kill. In addition, the life cycle of intestinal worms is around 2-3 weeks, so when a puppy does have worms, he needs to initially be dewormed every two weeks at first to kill all the worms. The first treatment kills the adults present while the second one kills the worms that had not yet hatched at the time of the first treatment. After that, he can be dewormed monthly. I would give him another deworming treatment now, one that includes praziquantel such as Drontal. Give him another dose in two weeks, and then deworm him monthly until he is six months old. After that, he should be dewormed every three months. As a side note, it is never recommended to give dogs pork. Those look like tapeworms, which requires praziquantel to treat. That is a prescription medication, so you will need to take Kiko into the vet to get Drontal (which contains praziquantel) to treat it.

Hi there. Short, flat worms that you can see in the stool are tapeworms. Over-the-counter dewormers will not get rid of these, so you'll need to get a prescription dewormer from your vet to treat them effectively :)

Asya has what looks like Tapeworms and if she's got them them so does Chance. What do I need to do/ what meds can I buy to get rid of them? Neither take pills well and I'm thinking of drops for their water?
Unfortunately this will not cure the tapeworms. They need praziquatel, which is a prescription medication. You can get it in the form of Drontal from the vet. I would take them both into the vet, and the vet can give them the pill so you don't have to worry about it. You will also need to treat them both for fleas, as fleas are intermediate hosts of tapeworms. Best of luck.

Tapeworms are typically associated with fleas. There are over the counter deworming medications that can be used for tapeworms but if the fleas are not addressed as well the tapeworms will return. With a puppy that young most topical flea treatments are not appropriate but bathing with Dawn dish soap may help remove the fleas on your puppy currently.
