My parrot is sleepy after wing clipping. Was it held too tightly?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | 7 years and 2 months old | 418 lbs

My parrot had wings & talons clipped this morning, upon being released by a new assistant who held him, he was panting heavily, beak open & wings away from his body! This has never happened before. He closed his eyes......The Dr watched him....he closed his eyes, he was not his feisty self! Took him home. He has slept all day except for short feedings of fruit I offered him. its been 7 hrs since the clipping, he is still desiring to sleep & is. Can a bird be hurt fr being held too tightly?

It is certainly posdible that he could be damaged as they are quite delicate and their bones are relatively brittle. However I doubt this is the case, more likely I think that the bird has got really stressed when being held and overheated and likely struggled for breath. Handling can be incredibly stressful for birds and sometimes can even result in heart attacks. I would kerp him in a really calm and quiet environment as this has likely taken a large toal on him and he needs to rest. If there is no improvement you will need a vet check just in case there has been damage.
