My kitten has two, round wounds on her hind legs close to her joints. They're dry, red, swollen, and infected by something. What should we do?

Oh dear, poor Luci! The lesions on her hocks are quite irritated. From the picture, I'm having trouble determining if the lesions have scaling skin, tapeworm segments, or environmental debris on them. Possible causes of these skin lesions include ringworm, mange, bacterial skin infection, pressure sores, among other issues. At this point, your best bet is to take Luci to her vet for an exam and any necessary diagnostic testing, such as a fungal culture (for ringworm), skin scrapes (for mange), and skin cytology (for overgrowth of bacteria). From there, her vet will be able to determine the best course of treatment to manage this issue. In case ringworm or Sarcoptic mange are present, be sure to wash your hands well after handling Luci, at least until a more definitive diagnosis is reached. I hope that she's on the mend soon!
